For over 80 years, St. Augustine Catholic Student Center has been a "home
away from home" for students of the University of Florida and Santa Fe Community
College. Our faith community is blessed by the unique personalities of
each student who participates in the ministries of St. Augustine. And we wish to
stay in close communication with the families of those students.
Parents of students who provide St. Augustine
with their permanent mailing address will receive quarterly issues of the Take and Read
newsletter. This student-produced document will keep you updated on the Catholic
community in which your college student is active. If you missed an issue, you
can read the online archives of the Take and Read on
this site.
We also host special events throughout the year
to welcome parents to the Student Center.
Check back soon for details. In order to ensure that we include you in these
opportunities, please complete and submit the
Parent Contact Form directly from
this site.
If your child wishes to become more involved at
the Student Center, do not hesitate to have him or her call the church at
352.372.3533
or e-mail STAstudentcenter@yahoo.com. Make sure the student has completed a
parish registration,
so we can officially welcome him or her to church. We'll add the student to our
e-mail listserv and invite them to participate in the many
ministry opportunities at
St. Augustine. The monthly
calendar is a good resource for them and the weekly e-mail update will
remind them of upcoming activities. Each week several student groups gather for
fellowship, prayer, service and faith enrichment. There's something nearly every
night of the week. And we host special events throughout the year, such as
"Blast-Off Week" in the Fall
and "Catholic Awareness Week" in the Spring. Encourage your student to get involved.
If your student has not yet attended the Alpha
Retreat, encourage him or her to go - it is one of the best ways for the
student to deepen faith and meet fellow students in the community. The Fall
2009
Alpha Retreat will be October
2 - 4. Students can sign up for the
retreat in the parish office.
As you know, college is a time where students search for identity, form
life-long habits and are susceptible to many influences. St. Augustine Catholic
Student Center offers an inviting and supportive atmosphere in which those
students can worship, learn, serve and socialize. Our alumni tell us that Catholic campus ministry ignites within students a passion for their
faith and a desire to develop the skills and vision to serve as future leaders
of the Church and society.
We encourage parents to consider supporting St.
Augustine's efforts to expose students to
opportunities for fellowship, faith enrichment, leadership
development and community service. One convenient method of supporting the
ministries is our online giving program--ParishPay.
Choose either the Parents of Catholic Gators one-time gift option or have monthly
donations automatically withdrawn toward the Parents of Catholic Gators Campaign. Gifts
are also accepted through the mail (P.O. Box.13888
Gainesville, FL
32604).
For more information on these and other forms of giving, visit our
"Ways to Support" page.
The students, staff and community
of St. Augustine
greatly appreciate any contribution of time, talent or treasure you share.
You are always welcome to visit the Student Center in person. If you plan to come to town, want to get involved with upcoming
parent events or have questions about the Student Center, please e-mail
Gail Fitzsimmons at
augustinealumni@yahoo.com or call the
church at 352.372.3533.
God bless you and your family.
