ALPHA
at
St.
Augustine Catholic Student Center
The 2007-2008 Academic year marked 30 years of Alpha Retreats in Gainesville, FL. Since 1977, college students
have built lasting
friendships and experienced the amazing love of God by attending the retreats
and often serving on the leadership Teams. There are many ways that past Team
members and past Candidates (all those in the Alpha Community) can support the
current and future Retreats.
Leave a lasting impact on the future of Alpha...
  In
honor of Alpha’s 30th Anniversary, St. Augustine is kicking off a
campaign to support the future of Alpha retreats. Your gifts will enable the
retreat program to continue impacting the lives of students for the next 30
years and beyond. The first goal of the campaign is to fund the purchase of
Alpha pod chairs.
 Do
you remember the worn and torn cushions that you sat on in your Alpha small
groups? Some of your friends may have collected these cushions from the side of
the road. Do you remember loading and unloading them into the “set-up” trailer?
These same cushions are still in use today.
Please consider making a gift of $30 to fund the purchase of
a pod chair for future Alpha students. The pod chairs will provide students with
comfortable seating and back support as they listen to talks and
participate in group discussions. The chairs are lightweight, portable and
compact for storage, saving space on the travel to camp and throughout the year.
Their polyester fabric is also easy to clean, so the chairs can be sanitized
before each retreat (unlike the cushions that are as old as the students sitting
on them).
Each chair will be marked with the name and candidate year of
the alumnus that funded its purchase (or you may honor a fellow Alpha alum by
requesting their name be marked on the chair - perhaps your small group partner,
fellow team leader, or the small group leaders from your candidate Alpha, etc.).
This will be a testament to the longevity of the Alpha program and the extended
community that is praying for the candidates and team every semester.

Alpha Community Dinner & Serenade
Save the Date for Fall 2008: Saturday, October 18!
Each semester Alumni of the Alpha Community are invited to join current students
in the Alpha Community in supporting the Alpha Retreat Team and Candidates with
prayer (Palancas) and the traditional "Serenade." First we meet for a delicious
meal in Hurley Hall over which we recall memories of Alpha, catching up with old
friends and meeting new ones. Then we "serenade" the new students on the Alpha
Retreat, helping make their experience memorable. (What exactly are Palancas and

joining in this special activity by marking your calendars for the next Alpha
