Farmworker Ministry
Over 5000 migrant farm workers in Alachua County provide
back-breaking labor in extremely harsh conditions to provide us with
some of the least expensive produce in the world. Most families earn
less than $7500 a year, despite long work hours. The Farmworker
Ministry helps provide food, clothing, shelter and education to this
community.
Look for the Angel Tree Christmas gift drive at St. Augustine Church each
Advent.
Spanish-speaking volunteers are needed to work regularly with area families.
Other volunteer opportunities exist for both Spanish and non-Spanish
speakers. For more information contact Lori Williams at 335-3956 or lwoeste@hotmail.com.
Or contact the Alachua County School Migrant Education Office at 955-6855 or see their website (http://www.sbac.edu/~seccurr/migrant.htm) for
other volunteer opportunities.

the Coalition of Immokalee Workers Action who visited Gainesville as part of
their campaign for fair wages in the tomato supply chain. The visiting members
of the Coalition joined St. Augustine's Newman Club for Tuesday dinner and
stayed at the Catholic Worker House before the protest on UF's campus.
