Music Ministry
Who Is In Music Ministry?
Actually, everyone who comes to worship is a music minister. In fact, the most
important music ministry is done by the entire worshiping assembly.
Music leadership is provided at each Sunday liturgy by either cantors
or vocal and instrumental ensembles.
Saturday, 5:30 pm - cantors
Sunday, 9:00 am, 11:30 am, 1:30 pm (Spanish), 5:30 pm and 7:30 pm - choirs &
instrumentalists
In addition to the
above-mentioned groups, we have a Children’s choir
and a college student music
ministry team that leads the music at the Tuesday 5:30 pm Mass.
How Do I Join?
If you wish to sing in one of
the ensembles, please submit the
Music Ministry Inquiry Form from this site to provide us your contact
information, then just come to rehearsal. If you wish to be a cantor, you need to
sing for the Music Director (Nansi Carroll). If you are an instrumentalist, you
need to play for the Music Director (Nansi, again) so that she can get an idea
of your range and ability.
When Are Rehearsals?
The choirs for all of the
Sunday English language liturgies rehearse on Thursdays from 7:00-8:30 pm. The
rehearsals may be extended one half hour when the choir is preparing for a
special occasion. The Children’s Choir practices on Wednesday evenings from
6:00-6:50 pm. For information concerning the practice time for the 1:30 Spanish
choir, contact Letty Valentin or Jonathan Gil at 372-3533 and for information
concerning the Tuesday Mass music ministry team, contact Carolyn Krekeler at
372-3533. All groups meet one hour before the liturgy in which they minister.
What Do You Do in
Addition to Leading the Music at Liturgy?
We give two concerts each
year. Our Advent-Christmas Concert, held this year on
November 30th, features all of the choirs and guest artists in music
which helps us all to anticipate the Christmas season. The choral concert which
concludes our Jubilus
Concert Series occurs this season on
Feb. 1, 2008. The Jubilus concert series celebrates the reciprocal
relationship of arts and the sacred and features music from a wide range
of musical periods including music composed especially for this years festival. The Children’s Choir
participates in the city-wide Children’s Choir Festival. The Music Ministry also
sings at the Hospice Care Center and at local nursing homes.
